Fi Scott

Fi is a manufacturing geek, designer and founder of Make Works. Make Works are factory finders for designers and makers. We are building a digital platform that makes it easier to find and work with local factories, fabricators and facilities.
Make Works spend our days discovering the hundreds of factories, workshops and makers that are all too often hidden away in industrial estates. The platform brings these fabrication services online in ways that are practical, inspiring and accessible.
Fi started Make Works straight after graduating from Glasgow School of Art, and has since been working out how to lead a successful design-led technology start up from Scotland. She is constantly conflicted between her ambitions as a designer and as a solo tech founder; troubled by phrases like 'exit strategy' and the pressure to grow for-profit rather than forimpact. She is in the process of learning to speak the languages crossing design, arts, manufacturing, public funding bodies and tech start ups and she is still to find a sustainable business model. She is speaking at Small is Beautiful about these challenges and how Make Works are hoping to navigate them.
